Five reasons to do some beach volleyball training in Canary Islands
Beach volleyball is one of the many sports played in Canary Islands. In addition to the archipelago having the best beaches for this sport, there are numerous other reasons to train at the seaside in Canary Islands.
1.- Sunlight and clear skies: With fabulous weather 365 days a year, the “eternal springtime” is the perfect ally for professional beach volleyball players who visit Canary Islands. We have an average annual temperature of 24º – 22º in winter and 26º in summer. With 4,800 hours of sunlight a year and barely any rainfall, nothing will stop you getting up to speed.
2.- Benefits of the sea: After an intense training session or a tough competition, the sportsperson can enjoy a swim in the sea. The nutrients in our volcanic waters favour good blood circulation and help release tension from muscles.
3.- The perfect environment: There are also benefits to be derived from beach volleyball due to the environment it is played in – out in the open air. The combination of sun, sea and sand is perfect for aiding relaxation and the release of endorphins. And sun rays favour the production of serotonin – a hormone associated with mental and emotional well-being.
4.- Top-standard training areas:
- In Gran Canaria: Las Alcaravaneras Beach, located in the capital city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has a beach volleyball technical-development centre, with four courts and renowned facilities for training in this sport. A little over one kilometre long, the beach is next to the city’s marina and there are always sporting activities taking place on the sand. It is a destination frequently chosen by the Austrian, Russian, Polish, French and German beach volleyball teams for training.
- In Tenerife: The south of the island has extraordinary beaches for this sport. For example, Las Vistas Beach, in Los Cristianos, has a beach volleyball high-performance centre, where couples from all Europe come to train and where national and international tournaments are held. A highly recommended, top-standard destination chosen by the Spanish beach volleyball team for their pre-season training from December to May.
5.- Venue for big competitions:
- In Gran Canaria: It was chosen as the venue for the 1st Spanish Beach Volleyball Championship in May 2018. Playa del Inglés, one of the island’s most famous tourist beaches, witnessed the start of the competition. Top national players came to enjoy the quality of the beaches and an unbeatable climate, making it a great sporting event.
- In Tenerife: Las Vistas Beach was chosen by the Spanish Volleyball Federation for some tournaments as part of their Winter Beach Volleyball Circuit for the 2017–2018 season, showing once again that Canary Islands can compete even during the winter season.
